List of 12 Gifts for Coffee Lovers (snob)

After polling our office Slack channel, the items below are the most wished-for coffee-related gifts for coffee lovers in our 300+ person co-working space here in the heart of San Antonio, Texas. I then asked the other two contributors of POC & Co. to carefully tally up the results and pick through all the coffee gift ideas and come up with a nice list of what would be a great gift for the hardcore coffee lover. We were very deliberate in making this list short enough to get some good ideas, but long enough to have different choices & price ranges. There are obviously thousands of coffee gift ideas to choose from, but we chose these items for their quality, value-add, looks & lastly, price point. Below the coffee gift list, you’ll find several items that I have decided to go into more detail. The reason why not all the items on the list have gotten a write-up is that they are fairly explanatory and there’s no shortage of reviews online when it comes to those devices. Each item link will take you to Amazon or vendor website to get the items, the URL to Amazon are affiliate links and may earn POC & Co. some revenue.

Heads up: Products that link to Amazon are affiliate links. Clicking on them may earn us some cash, at no cost to you. This is how we pay for the website. Some links are good products and earn us 0.00 dollars. We take coffee seriously and thoroughly research and/or test products before recommending them to our community of fellow coffee-lovers.

Breville the Barista Express Espresso Machine, BES870XL

The ultimate splurge gift for the espresso lover on your gift list. I was skeptical to even add this espresso machine on this list because of the cost, but strangely enough, we had over 30+ people that wished for a Breville espresso machine in our poll. So I went online did a bit of digging around, read a ton of articles and commentary online. After a few hours of around coffee-related online groups, the Breville Espresso machine kept coming up on my searches over and over.

This item is not cheap, and it takes up a lot of countertop space. Not the most practical gift for someone that doesn’t have a lot of space or lives in a small apartment. In full disclosure, I don’t have one of these devices, but I’ve done lengthy research on this device to recommend it. Would I love to own one? Why, yes. If I had the counter space for this gorgeous piece, I most definitely would get one.

Chemex Classic Series, 8-Cups

Classic, iconic and a modern piece of artwork. The Chemex pour over coffee maker is the quintessential coffee device that has withstood the test of time and continues to be a staple maker for coffee lovers everywhere. I don’t think we need to tell you how much we love this device around the office. When I’m only making coffee for myself or maybe one other person, this is my go-to coffee maker. Clean, crisp and fully body coffee every time! The glass itself is light but doesn’t feel cheap, the wooden handle and the leather strap just ads to the iconic look of the Chemex, but also functional. If you received a Chemex as a gift, congratulations! Check out this post on how to get started with your Chemex & this other post for additional information regarding pour over coffee. I also have a definitive guide to pour over coffee filters here.

Technivorm 79112 KBT Coffee Brewer

Not much I can say that hasn’t already been said over and over about the Moccamaster. We did a test of 5 pour over ‘style’ automatic coffee makers and the Technivorm Moccamaster was the number one choice for the POC & Co. office space and the closest coffee maker to a pour over coffee that’s technically a drip. Temperature control, elegant design and simple/ease of use makes this coffee device the perfect coffee gift for the utilitarian coffee lover but also enjoys great looking well-made machines. It does a number of things really well without overwhelming the user, ever buy a new coffee machine and it looks like a cockpit of a Boeing 747? This is not one of those machines. It’s simple, no apps, no Wi-Fi, just feed it beans it will brew great cups of coffee time and time again. We have two of these coffee machines in our office and it’s been making great coffee without fail several times a day. It’s a workhorse coffee machine that looks great and easy to use. Technivorm also provides an industry-leading 5-year warranty that’s unmatched. Most coffee makers manufacturers last 1-year full warranty and maybe a 3-year part(s). This was a huge deciding factor for our office since we are in a co-working space and the machine would be used constantly. Having that warranty to back up the Technivrom product for 5 years is a great piece of mind.

Jetboil Flash JavaKit

This one is a POC & Co. favorite for the outdoors coffee lover. I’ve used the Sumo version for the Jetboil kit which you have to buy an extra plunger accessory, allowing you to make french press coffee on the go or while camping. The system works so well making coffee but also heats up food when you don’t have a wood fire. The Jetboil Flash JavaKit is everything you’ll need to make hot coffee in the woods, no fuss, just works! I recommend this gift for anyone that loves the outdoors and coffee. I’m been desperate enough in the past to make some pretty disgusting cowboy coffee (before I knew how to make it good enough) and it wasn’t worth it. With the Jetboil Flash kit, it comes with the plunger, just bring your favorite ground beans and you’re ready to make french press coffee anywhere!

Rustic Pour Over Coffee Maker + Stand

This is probably the most unique coffee gift on this list, specifically for the pour over coffee lover. This rustic pour over coffee is a great gift for someone that loves manually making coffee but also building things. The rustic pour over is a kit that you’ll need to build yourself, all parts included, you just need to put the stand and funnel together. While not necessarily a gift made for everyone, it does offer a unique coffee device in your kitchen that’s sure to pique a lot of interest, maybe even convert a person or two to pour over coffee.

Baratza Encore Conical Burr Coffee Grinder

One of the best burr grinders I’ve ever used. This thing has been a reliable workhorse in our office since we got it in 2015! The Encore is an award-winning entry-level burr grinder that should last you for years with very little maintenance required. The build quality, although plastic is solid, I wish there were more metals parts, but it’s high-quality plastic and the grinder itself is very reliable. The Encore consistently grinds coffee according to your setting of choice and has over 40 grind sizes for you to choose from. What I love the most about Baratza is not only have they created a great reliable burr grinder but also support the product with a great warranty and replacement parts.

…we’ve purposefully designed Baratza grinders to be maintained like commercial grinders and maximize their value. With regular cleaning, maintenance, repair, and even rebuilds our grinders can give an excellent, accurate grind for many years.

– Baratza

If you’re looking for a higher-end, entry-level burr grinder, look no further than the Baratza Encore. If the price of the Encore is a bit too much, I would recommend the OXO BREW Conical Burr Coffee Grinder. I have one at home and it works really well and I haven’t had any issues with it since the purchase of well over 1.5 years now. My only complaint about the OXO Burr grinder is the bean hopper holds less than 1 lbs of coffee. But if you’re generally making coffee for yourself or two others, then this grinder will hold plenty of coffee beans. This is only an issue when I have company over and I have to keep grinding beans for drip coffee.

Final Thoughts & Conclusion

This list could have easily been over 50 items long, but ain’t nobody got time for all that. I will continually curate, add or remove items from this list as time goes on. I think it’s worth keeping up with the coffee trends, as newer or better products appear in the market place. I hope you enjoyed this list and it gave you some awesome ideas for the next gift for the coffee lover on your shopping list.
